Registration for this event opens on 15 April 2025
Presenter: Neryl Quilty
My father, William McKittrick, was a merchant seaman from Liverpool England who was sunk three times in his career. The Mediterranean, the North Atlantic and the South China Sea feature in his watery story. He ended up in the Australian Army in 1940 (unbelievable but true) and survived the Fall of Singapore. He spent two and a half years 'doing some railway work' for the Japanese in Burma. Whereas the first two sinkings are a little 'cloudy', the third sinking is an incredible story of survival and resilience. This event involved a submarine and 73 Australian and British POWs and is well documented by the United States Navy.
