Monumental Cemetery Walk

We will walk through Wagga Wagga Monumental Cemetery and adjacent Commonwealth War Cemetery where simple to elaborate headstones honour people from the early days of European settlement, tragic local losses in the Second World War, to the present day.
The site was selected about 1850 because the first cemetery was flood prone.
Epitaphs on many graves give a picture of life and human insight, including poignant reminders of accidents and epidemics that shortened lives. It's mostly a Christian place with each denomination having its own space, plus one for Chinese. The Orthodox section has some elaborate and colourful recent graves. Newer sections are for Muslims, Hazaras and Yazidis to meet their burial customs.
Registrants should wear their lanyard, appropriate clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen. Bring your water bottle as water is not available at the site.
Registration is free but a gold coin is required to attend the session.
