Medicinal Cannabis, a catalyst for restoring dignity, capacity and self-determination

Registration for this event opens on 7 April 2026

Presenter: Jason Frost

This talk shares the personal recovery journey of retired Australian Army Sergeant Jason Frost and explores how new approaches to veteran health are challenging conventional treatment models.

Jason begins by outlining his 16 years of military service, joining the Army at 19 and retiring at 35 as a Platoon Sergeant after cumulative injuries sustained in high-stress operational environments.  Following discharge, he was diagnosed with chronic pain, spondylosis, PTSD and major depressive disorder.  Treatment relied heavily on multiple pharmaceuticals. The resulting polypharmacy contributed to severe side effects including memory loss, behavioural changes, seizures and suicidal ideation.

The turning point came through exposure to veteran peer networks and emerging therapies, including medicinal cannabis and trauma-focused rehabilitation.  Jason discusses how these approaches became a catalyst for restoring dignity, capacity and self-determination.

** The presentation concludes on Thursday 30th April with a site visit to the Wagga Pro Patria Centre.  The site visit is a separate event so you will also need to register for it.

The talk and the tour can be undertaken independently of each other but participating in both would be a more enriching experience.
