Stories of living & working in the Northern Territory

Registration for this event opens on 18 May 2026

Presenter: Christine Brickhill

Event manager: Judith Foley

I decided to take a GAP year when I turned 60.

I took a year of leave from my job as Assistant Principal at Willans Hill Special Education School and applied for a position as Senior Education Consultant in Arnhem Land, NT, based in Nhulunbuy located on the Gulf of Carpentaria.

I had 13 schools to support  and only one I could drive to to visit. The rest I had to charter airplanes  and stay in remote communities, often sleeping in classrooms.

My GAP year spread out to 8 years!  I will share some of these outback experiences with you.

Registration is free but a gold coin is required to attend the session.
