Presenter: Yazdan Mansourian
We often think of leisure as spare time; however, it plays an important role in shaping our identity, enhancing wellbeing, and creating a sense of meaning and belonging. Through leisure, we express who we are, what we value, and how we engage with the world. When leisure activities are pursued with commitment and care, they can become a source of satisfaction and social connection. Research shows that meaningful leisure helps us remain connected, curious, and resilient across different stages of life.
This course introduces the concept of Serious Leisure and explains how leisure activities can enrich everyday life. The session explores how hobbies, volunteering, and creative pursuits contribute to wellbeing, social connection, and a sense of purpose. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own activities, recognise the value of what they already do, and consider how they might deepen existing interests or pursue new forms of leisure.
