Presenter: Nabiha Koriaty
Nabiha Koriaty, through kindness and sharing, spends her days in our community, showing her gratitude for the life she has been gifted. Born in 1941 during WWII, in a small town in Southern Lebanon, Nabiha tells us about her family, their lives and their hardships. Nabiha met her husband in 1962. They married and had two children. Work was scarce and life extremely difficult. Immigration seemed the only option. They managed to obtain Australian Visas but were unable to travel together. Karam travelled ahead with only a small suitcase, five Lebanese pounds ($1.50) and no English. We will hear of the struggles they endured before finally reuniting in Melbourne. In 1973 the family of now five, moved to Wagga, as Karam was transferred with his work as a printer. Nabiha was cooking and selling her Lebanese food at the Sunday Markets. In 1989 Nabiha's Kitchen opened it's doors for business.
