My Mother's Life Journey
Registration for this event opens on 2 June 2025
Presenter: Ann Brewster
Born in 1925, my mother, Bea Brewster, grew up in Melbourne during the Great Depression and World War 2. Much to the astonishment of her city family, she married a dairy farmer and moved to live in Gippsland. Raising and educating three children in very difficult circumstances, she was suddenly widowed at age 49 and ultimately moved to Central Victoria to live. Here she undertook local and family history research, and, as a result of her extensive community involvement, was one of ten finalists in 2003 in the Victorian Senior Citizens of the Year awards and was the recipient of a Commonwealth Centenary Medal. In her quiet, unassuming way, my mother made a big difference to the communities in which she lived, but left a very small imprint on this earth.
